Harmful plastics

Plastic is not so harmless as we think. Bisphenol A is a substance that makes plastic stronger and more elastic, and it is used in the manufacture of food packaging, water bottles, baby bottles, boxes for storage of food and other. This substance can penetrate into our food, especially when heated or used multiple times as recycled plastic containers and bottles. When the plastic containers are subjected to high temperatures, harmful chemicals are released into the foods or the beverages. This is why it’s not good to drink hot beverages from plastic cups or bottles. Alson avoid leaving bottles under direct sunlight, boil or cook food in microwave oven directly with the plastic foil. Keeping cooking oil in plastic bottles can also lead to deposition of harmful substances into the food.

When Bisphenol A gets into our bodies, it mimics estrogen, which can cause hormonal imbalance and disrupt thyroid function. Trials on animals and humans have shown that an excessive intake of bisphenol A may lead to hormonal disorders and cause infertility, obesity, precocious puberty, prostate cancer, diabetes, and even development of the mammary glands in males.

How to protect ourselfs?
1. It’s impossible to avoid the plastic, but you can reduce the use of it. If possible, buy fresh food directly from the manufacturer that is not packaged in plastic or buy food in glass jars and bottles (oil, milk, jam, etc.).
2. It is recommended not ot use plastic packages multiple times. Try to buy and store food in glass packages.
3. Don’t store food in plastic boxes and don’t buy plastic bottles for your baby!
4. Never expose plastics to high temepratures.

Polyethylene terephthalate

It’s possible to release chemicals that damage the endocrine system, such as acetaldehyde. Single use only.
Used for: 2 liter bottles for beverages, polyester fibers
of more than one type of plastic

High density polyethylene

Additives and softeners according to many experts are not sufficiently examined in detail
Used for: milk bottles, garbage bags, bottle caps, bottles for detergents

Perhaps the most dangerous plastic – releases fatal carcinogens that lead to reproductive and other health problems
Used for: Bottles, packaging, clothing, toys

Low density polyethylene

These plastics do not react chemically.
The downside is that they degrade slowly in the environment
Used for: Shopping bags, CDs, household foil bags for bread.

Chemical additives and softeners according to many experts are not sufficiently explored.
